Prescott area Congressman Eli Crane is calling on Senators Mark Kelly and Ruben Gallego to support a House-passed bill that would reopen the federal government.
On Monday, Crane joined all Republican members of Arizona’s congressional delegation in signing a letter urging the two Democrat senators to back the funding extension.
The House passed the bill on September 19th, which would maintain current government funding levels through November 21st. So far, only two Senate Democrats and one Independent support the measure—leaving the government shutdown in effect until five more senators join.
Crane criticized Senators Kelly and Gallego for opposing the bill, saying a prolonged shutdown harms Arizonans—especially federal employees now furloughed or working without pay.
Crane urged both senators to, quote, “back this sensible measure and help end the government shutdown.”
