With Yavapai County under a flash flood watch through Saturday, you should take steps to protect your property from flood waters. One way to do that is with a wall of sandbags. But officials with Yavapai County Emergency Management want to make sure you know how to properly stack your sandbags.
Make sure to only fill sandbags half to three-quarters full so they can be stacked in a pyramid with no gaps between bags. If the bags are completely full of sand, there will be gaps and water can get through them. Sandbag walls are an efficient way to divert water from the doors and foundation of your home.
You can get free sandbags at your local fire station, but you will have to fill them yourself.
