Prescott Fire Department crews rescued an injured hiker Sunday afternoon at Watson Lake. Fire department officials report the male victim suffered a serious leg injury after a boulder weighing several hundred pounds broke loose and struck him.
Rescue crews arrived on the scene around 1 p.m. Due to the remote location, first responders faced a challenging hike to reach the victim. He was eventually stabilized and carried out in a litter basket before being airlifted to a level one trauma center.
The Prescott Fire Department reminds climbers to check rock stability, avoid loose areas, never climb alone, inform others of your plans, and always carry a charged cell phone.
