Prescribed Burn Underway in Chino Ranger District

A prescribed burn is underway on the Chino Valley Ranger District in the Yolo Ranch area, located in the northwest part of the Prescott National Forest. The burn encompasses 2,000 acres of Ponderosa pine and should be wrapped up by the end of the week.

Smoke may be visible from Prescott, Chino Valley, Paulden, and areas near I-40 and Seligman. As temperatures drop at night, smoke could settle in low-lying areas and valleys.

Drivers are urged to slow down, use headlights, and watch for fire crews and equipment on the roads. No closures are expected.

All prescribed burns are dependent on weather, staffing, and approval from the state Department of Environmental Quality. The purpose of the burn is to reduce the risk of a catastrophic wildfire and to improve forest health.
