They took the pitch Wednesday night seeking back-to-back Great Southwest Athletic Conference titles. Standing in the way of the Embry-Riddle women’s soccer team was The Master’s University. But it was a night where lucky breaks for the Lady Eagles were hard to come by. Three times during regulation, Riddle players had shots bounce off the post. Then in overtime, another Riddle shot banged off the crossbar.
With the score 0-0 at the end of the second overtime, the two sides had to settle things with penalty kicks. The Lady Eagles made four of their PKs, but the Lady Mustangs connected on five PKs to give them the conference championship.
With the loss in the shootout, Embry-Riddle’s record is now 17-0-3 on the season. As for the NAIA national tournament, the Lady Eagles will wait and see if they get an at-large bid.
