A voluntary recall was announced for Moonlight Companies’ California-grown conventional yellow and white peaches. Officials with Yavapai County Community Health Services say the recall is due to a potential contamination with listeria, an organism that can cause fatal infections in children, the elderly, and those with a weakened immune system.
Healthy individuals may suffer only short-term symptoms such as high fever, severe headaches, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain, and diarrhea. However, listeria can cause miscarriages and stillbirths in pregnant women.
The recalled peaches were sold as individual fruits or in multi-packs nationwide between September 16th and October 29th. County health officials say the affected produce sold individually bears a PLU sticker, but does not include packages or PLU stickers marked with Washington or organic.
A complete list of affected produce can be found on the Yavapai County Community Health Services website. No illnesses have been reported to date.
