YCSO Deputies Become Impromptu Firefighters

Deputies with the Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office stepped in Monday afternoon to extinguish a structure fire. YCSO officials report the Mingus Mountain property was outside the jurisdiction of any local fire agencies, and no lives were in immediate danger, meaning firefighters were unable to respond.

Despite the added hazards of lithium batteries, propane, and a generator, deputies were able to contain the flames using shovels, fire extinguishers, and hoses. YCSO command later authorized a county roads water truck to soak the area to keep a fire from breaking out on the hillside, extinguishing all hot spots by 6:10 p.m.

The structure was a total loss, but there were no injuries.
