Prescott’s Planning and Zoning Commission has signed off on Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University’s plan to install a new, much larger digital sign along Willow Creek Road.
The university will replace its current reader board with a 25-foot-tall monument sign at the main Dan Carroll Drive entrance, and install two updated monument signs at the Haas Boulevard and Remmel Road entrances.
Staff said the upgraded digital display — at 127 square feet — exceeds normal size limits but is appropriate given traffic speeds on Willow Creek Road. P&Z Commissioners noted past safety requirements for at least a six-second static display, which will still apply. The city also reiterated that ERAU cannot sell advertising or promote off-site commercial activity on the sign.
The commission voted 5-0 to recommend approval. The proposal now moves to the Prescott City Council for final action.
