Officials with the Prescott Fire Department remind residents to always maintain safe practices when it comes to in-home dryers. They say clothes dryers cause thousands of house fires every year, but many are preventable.
Residents should clean the lint filter before and after every load, keep the area around the dryer clear of clutter, check and clean the vent regularly, turn the dryer off if they leave home or go to sleep, and never dry items that have come in contact with a flammable substance. Prescott fire officials add users should have dryers installed by professionals and keep them in good working order.
