Prescott-area Congressman Eli Crane introduced legislation to formally authorize the Yavapai-Apache Nation Water Rights Settlement Agreement. H.R. 6931 would solidify the Nation’s water rights, fund critical infrastructure projects, and support the long-term health of the Verde River. It includes construction of a new pipeline and a new drinking water system.
The measure also grants the Nation permanent access to Central Arizona Project water and the ability to store or lease it in-state.
Yavapai-Apache Chairman Buddy Rocha says the bill will bring closure to more than four decades of litigation and provide water security for the Nation and surrounding communities.
