Yavapai County Recovers More than $800,000 from Cyber Crime Attack

Yavapai County officials say nearly $850,000 stolen in a cyberattack has been recovered. The funds were redirected to a fraudulent bank account after criminals infiltrated the email system of a county vendor. Posing as that vendor, they successfully diverted a scheduled payment.

Sheriff David Rhodes praised the speed and skill of investigators, calling it a victory against cybercrime.

The county is tightening security and urging residents to stay vigilant by verifying payments, using multi-factor authentication, and reporting suspicious activity immediately. Sheriff’s Office officials say quick action was key to getting the money back.
