The Prescott Frontier Days Rodeo family is mourning the loss of a beloved volunteer and local hero. Gary “Mr. Ed” Eddy passed away January 28th after a battle with cancer.
Born and raised in Prescott, Mr. Ed first volunteered with the rodeo in 1971, serving in roles ranging from usher and security to publicity chair and royalty support. A Marine veteran, he once admitted to taking leave just to work rodeo security.
His nickname, “Mr. Ed,” came from a fifth-grade teacher looking to distinguish a class full of Garys — and it stuck, even becoming his CB handle.
Rodeo officials say Eddy was known for his smile, his Werther’s candy, and his unwavering commitment to the Prescott Frontier Days. He was named the first PFD Superstar Volunteer in 2021 and celebrated 50 years of service in 2025.
A celebration of life will be held February 20th from 4 to 6 p.m. in the Freeman Building at the Prescott Rodeo Grounds.
