Fire managers on the Bradshaw Ranger District are conducting a winter prescribed pile burning operation to reduce hazardous fuels. It is taking place near Skyline Drive and could continue throughout the winter months as conditions allow.
The hand piles were created during recent thinning and hazardous fuels reduction projects in the areas of Iron Springs, Skyline Drive and Spruce Mountain Road.
Smoke is expected to be light but visible from multiple locations, including Prescott and surrounding communities near Iron Springs and Skyline Drive. Officials note that as temperatures cool overnight, smoke may settle in drainages and valleys.
Forest visitors are advised to use caution in the vicinity of the prescribed burn.
