Two local wrestlers brought home championships from Saturday’s sectional tournaments. Prescott’s Jonah Gann stood at the top of the podium at 157 pounds, while Bradshaw Mountain’s Riley Nollett won it all at 106 pounds.
Several local grapplers finished as runners-up in their weight classes. They are Prescott’s Dayton Shelton and Dexter Hewitt, Bradshaw Mountain’s Gavyn Williams, Izak Ricketts, and Christian Louthian, and Chino Valley’s Jason Aviles.
Third-place finishers were Prescott’s Cash Kasun and Noah Smith, Bradshaw’s Zac Turner and Carter Wright, and Chino’s Wyatt Kunaschk.
Fourth-place finishes went to Prescott’s Henry Hampton and River Vinett, Bradshaw Mountain’s Landon Eller and Mason Dennis, and Chino Valley’s Lyric Brooks.
Team-wise, Bradshaw Mountain finished third in Division Two, Section Two, and Prescott was fourth in Division Three, Section Two.
The state tournament begins Thursday at Phoenix’s Veterans Memorial Coliseum.
