1968: A first in the NBA. Philadelphia 76ers center Wilt Chamberlain became the first player in league history to achieve 25,000 points in his career. When he retired in 1973, he had amassed 31,419 points.
1969: A burst of speed got him the win. Lee-Roy Yarbrough passed Charlie Glotzbach on the final lap to win the Daytona 500. It was the first time the race had been won on a last-lap pass.
1985: The debut of one of the NHL’s best goalies. Nineteen-year-old Patrick Roy played his first game for the Montreal Canadiens. During his 19-year career, he won 551 games, three Vezina Trophies, and four Stanley Cups.
