The State House of Representatives passed House Concurrent Resolution 2003, known as the Protect Girls Sports in Arizona Act, sending the measure to the State Senate.
The resolution, sponsored by Prescott-area State Representative Selina Bliss, would refer the issue to voters on the November 2026 ballot.
If approved, the measure would require school-sponsored interscholastic and intramural teams to be designated as male, female, or co-educational based on biological sex. Teams designated for females would not be open to athletes of the male sex.
Supporters say the proposal restores and strengthens parts of Arizona’s 2022 Save Women’s Sports law that were partially blocked by the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals. The measure also includes privacy protections for athletic facilities and would take effect January 1, 2027, if approved by voters.
