This Day in Sports History, February 25th

1972: One of MLB’s most lopsided trades. Philadelphia got Steve Carlton from St. Louis for Rick Wise. While Wise went 32–28 in two seasons with the Cards, Carlton spent 15 years with the Phils, won four Cy Youngs, a world championship, and became a 300-game winner.

1977: He was unstoppable offensively. New Orleans’ Pete Maravich posted 68 points in a 124–107 win over New York. That was an NBA. scoring record for a guard.

1981: The Islanders’ defense took the night off. New York gave up eleven goals in an 11–4 loss to Calgary. Kent Nilsson had the biggest night for the Flames with three goals and two assists.
