They not only brought their tennis racquets with them for opening day, they also brought their brooms. Both the Prescott boys and girls tennis teams began their 2026 seasons at home Thursday taking on Tempe.
The Lady Badgers took the court first and had little problem with the Lady Buffaloes as they took care of them in a 9–0 sweep. All of Prescott’s singles players won in two sets, with Alder Aten and Mandy Hirasa both winning their matches 6–0, 6–0. Later that night, Hirasa went from the tennis court to the basketball court and saw time in the state tournament game versus Bradshaw Mountain. Each doubles team won their match 8–0.
The boys were up next, and they also swept Tempe 9–0. Only one singles match went to a third-set tiebreaker, with Tanner Thompson dropping the first set 6–2, then winning the next two sets 7–5 and 10–3. Bridger Mangum won his number three singles match 6–0 and 6–0.
