Prescott City Council Narrowly Passes Affordable Housing Plan

Prescott has a workforce housing plan — but not everyone on the city council is on board with how it got there.

Tuesday’s meeting ended with a 4-3 vote approving a strategy and implementation plan, clearing the way to pursue a 75-thousand dollar state grant. The plan targets essential workers — teachers, nurses, and police officers — earning between 60 and 120 percent of the area’s median income. City data shows 35 job offers were declined last year due to housing costs alone.

The plan spans more than a dozen initiatives. Mayor Pro Tem Lois Fruhwirth made clear the council wasn’t finished.

A staff member responded that no formal motion was needed — council direction had already been given, and the item will return.
