Crews from the Central Arizona Fire and Medical Authority and the Prescott Fire Department responded to a structure fire in Prescott Valley caused by illegal burning.
The fire broke out in the 7800 of East Manley Drive around 4:12 p.m. Wednesday.
Investigators say it started when weeds were burned on a no-burn day. The flames spread to bushes, the home and its attic, fueled by wind.
Firefighters contained the blaze to the building of origin, protected neighboring homes and recovered valuables for the owner.
The individual responsible was cited for a misdemeanor by Prescott Valley Police. No injuries were reported.
Residents are reminded they must obtain a residential burn permit at prescottarea.burn-permits.com — and always check that website to confirm it is a burn day before lighting anything. Never burn on a no-burn day or when conditions are windy.
