Fire managers on the Prescott National Forest are planning a prescribed broadcast burn on the Verde Ranger District. The project, called the Brindle Pup Broadcast Burn, will treat about 872 acres to reduce hazardous fuels and improve long-term forest health.
Ignitions could begin next week. Smoke from the operation may be visible from I-17 and Highway 169, as well as from Prescott, Prescott Valley, Cottonwood, Camp Verde, Dewey and Cherry. Forest Service officials say smoke will be heaviest during active ignitions, with some residual smoke possible for several days afterward.
Forest managers say prescribed fire plays an important role in reducing fuel buildup and creating buffer zones that can help protect nearby communities from future wildfires.
No closures are planned, but visitors should use caution and watch for firefighters and equipment in the area.
