Two former local basketball standouts led the charge for their teams in post-season action.
Last night was the first round of the NIT, and the University of New Mexico men’s squad dropped the hammer on Sam Houston. The Lobos zapped the Bearkats 107–83. Prescott grad Uriah Tenette had the second-most points for New Mexico with 20. He also recorded six assists and four rebounds. The Lobos face George Washington Sunday.
In the JUCO national tournament for Division II, Pima College thrashed Davidson-Davie 108–80 in Tuesday’s opening round. Bradshaw Mountain grad Mason Hunt was the Aztecs’ top scorer with 30 points. Pima faces Iowa Central in the quarterfinals today.
Also on the docket today, former Yavapai College player Kishyah Anderson will lead Georgia Southern into battle against Miami in the Women’s Basketball Invitational Tournament. She’s averaging 14.3 points per game and was voted the Sun Conference Player of the Year.
