Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in Prescott has launched a new initiative to strengthen STEM education across Yavapai County by training local teachers.
The program, led by mechanical engineering professor Doctor Mehran Andalibi , connects university faculty and lab resources with middle and high school educators.
A pilot course that began in January offers hands-on training in computer-aided design and 3-D printing. About nine teachers are participating, with plans to expand.
Educators are learning to use advanced tools including laser cutters and CNC machines, with support from Embry-Riddle students. University officials say the goal is to help teachers bring these skills back to their classrooms and create more equitable access to emerging technologies.
The program could reach thousands of students by 2026, with additional funding sources under consideration to expand training and equipment access across the county.
