1912: The grand opening of one of baseball’s legendary stadiums. The Red Sox played their first game at Boston’s Fenway Park. They christened their new home with a 7-6 extra-inning victory over the New York Highlanders.
1920: He put himself into the game . . . and won it. Philadelphia Phillies player-manager Gavvy Cravath inserted himself into the game as a pinch-hitter and proceeded to hit a three-run homer. That proved the difference as the Phils downed the New York Giants 3-0.
1986: A record-setting game for Michael. Chicago’s Michael Jordan set an NBA playoff record with 63 points in one game. It wasn’t enough, however, as the Bulls fell to Boston 135-131 in double-overtime.
