The Prescott Valley Police Department is mourning the loss of one of its own.
K-9 Mac — a narcotics detection and patrol dog — passed away unexpectedly in his sleep over the weekend. He was two-and-a-half years old.
Mac joined the department last September and earned full certification through the National Police Canine Association by December. In that short time, he logged 45 deployments — seizing roughly 14 pounds of fentanyl, five pounds of methamphetamine, and several firearms tied to drug arrests. He also supported patrol and SWAT operations for multiple agencies in the region.
The department extended condolences to Mac’s handler, Officer Justin Ellison, and to the rest of the K-9 unit. A memorial service is planned — details to be announced.
