CAFMA Receives Gold Helmet Status for Firefighter Cancer Research

The Central Arizona Fire and Medical Authority received a national honor for its efforts to protect firefighters from cancer. The department has earned “Gold Helmet” status through the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health.

The recognition is awarded to departments that demonstrate strong participation in the National Firefighter Registry for Cancer, which tracks and studies cancer rates among firefighters. To qualify, at least half of a department’s personnel must be enrolled.

Cancer is the leading cause of line-of-duty death in the fire service, making prevention and research a top priority.

CAFMA officials say the honor reflects the agency’s commitment to safeguarding the health of its firefighters and supporting life-saving research.
