This Day in Sports History, April 30th

1946: A big goose-egg for “Rapid Robert.” Cleveland’s Bob Feller tossed a 1-0 no-hitter against the Yankees. It was the second no-no in Feller’s career.

1961: A home run barrage by “The Say Hey Kid.” San Francisco’s Willie Mays clubbed four home runs in one game. That helped the Giants decimate the Milwaukee Braves 14-4.

1971: The newbies got the title. Milwaukee downed Baltimore 118-106 in game four to sweep the Bullets and win the NBA championship in just their third year of existence. Oscar Robertson led the Bucks with 30 points.

Happy birthday today to . . . former St. Louis Cardinals safety Jerry Stovall, who’s 85. Detroit Pistons Hall of Fame point guard Isaiah Thomas is 65. Former New York Jets receiver Al Toon is 63, and Anaheim Ducks winger Chris Kreider is 35.
