Prescott Valley authorities are investigating a fire that severely damaged one of the area’s most historic homes.
The Central Arizona Fire and Medical Authority and Prescott Fire Department were dispatched around 3:18 p.m. Saturday to a structure fire on Fourth Street. Crews arrived to find a two-story home with flames showing from the roof and quickly brought the fire under control.
Officials confirm the property is the historic Barlow-Massicks House, known as the “Castle on the Creek.” Built in 1891 by British expatriate Thomas Gibson Barlow-Massicks, the Victorian-era mansion featured a ballroom and wine cellar and served as a centerpiece for early mining-era entertaining near Lynx Creek.
Prescott Valley Mayor Kell Palguta says Estelle Caldwell, who has lived in the home for six decades, escaped safely:
Palguta says the cause of the fire appears to be accidental:
One person was transported to the hospital for treatment.
