The fire danger has spiked in the Prescott National Forest. It is now listed as very high. Last week, the fire danger was high. This is the result of dry conditions and almost no rain over the past few weeks. Winds have also picked up recently.
While there are no fire restrictions in place in the forest, everyone is urged to take precautions to prevent a wildfire from breaking out. Make sure campfires are completely out and ashes are cool to the touch before you leave. Do not throw cigarette butts on the ground or out car windows. Make sure chains are not dragging from your vehicle, as that can throw out sparks. Finally, do not park your vehicle on the grass, as heat from underneath your car can ignite vegetation.
