It is very possible Arizona could see a major wildfire this month. The National Interagency Fire Center released its Fire Potential Outlook report for this month. The risk for wildfire is above normal for three-quarters of the state, including portions of Yavapai County. The wildfire risk is also above normal for much of California and the Pacific Northwest, New Mexico, Colorado, Utah, and Nevada, as well as parts of Montana, North Dakota, Minnesota, and Michigan.
Stage One fire restrictions are in place for all of Yavapai County. Campfires and warming fires are prohibited except within developed sites. Smoking is prohibited except within vehicles or buildings, and motorists are urged not to toss cigarettes out vehicle windows. Before driving, make sure chains are not dragging from your vehicle, as they can produce sparks.
The current fire danger in the Prescott National Forest is very high.
