As fraud and scam threats persist, the Prescott Police Department reports more than $3.5 million in scams were reported in the City during the first four months of this year.
Police officials say the department is taking steps to protect residents and has announced the Stop-Check-Protect fraud prevention campaign. The project aims to educate and empower residents to recognize scams, protect personal information, and remain informed.
It will include safety tips shared on social media, community presentations, outreach events, educational handouts and pamphlets, and a website resource hub with fraud prevention information and reporting resources.
Police officials say the campaign focuses on three important steps to follow when faced with suspicious requests, stating residents should stop and pause before they act, check and verify before trusting the request, and protect their information and money. These steps aim to combat the urgency, fear, and pressure scammers often use to rush decisions.
Residents can schedule presentations for their community organizations by calling 928-777-1900.
