A year-long investigation into a fatal fentanyl overdose has led to the arrest of a Mesa man who is now facing serious felony charges.
According to the Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office, 33-year-old Kyle Guanell was taken into custody on May 21st following an extensive investigation by Partners Against Narcotics Trafficking, also known as PANT.
The case began in March of 2025 when an adult male suffered a fatal overdose while caring for his two children at a motel in Prescott. Detectives spent more than a year tracking the source of the drugs and ultimately identified Guanell as the suspected dealer.
Investigators say Guanell is now accused of manslaughter, the sale of lethal fentanyl, transportation of narcotic drugs, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
The investigation involved a coordinated effort between the Prescott Police Department, the Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office, PANT detectives, and the Yavapai County Attorney’s Office.
Sheriff David Rhodes says drug dealers who distribute fentanyl must be held accountable for the deaths that result from their actions. He added that law enforcement will continue to pursue those responsible and seek justice for victims and their families.
