City of Prescott Aiming for Land Purchase Near Airport

The City of Prescott is moving forward with plans to acquire land near Prescott Regional Airport as part of a long-term effort to improve airport operations, public safety, and economic development.

City officials say the vacant parcel is located directly adjacent to airport property and sits between existing city-owned parcels, making it a key piece of the airport’s future development plans.

One of the primary goals for the property is to support infrastructure for U.S. Forest Service firefighting aircraft. City officials say the improvements would strengthen regional wildfire response capabilities and better serve Prescott and surrounding communities. The State of Arizona has already recognized the project’s importance, allocating funding in its 2026 budget to support related airport infrastructure.

City officials say they have been working since 2025 to reach a voluntary agreement for the property. After those efforts were unsuccessful, they decided to initiate the eminent domain process allowed under Arizona law.

City leaders stress that the process will include an independent appraisal and just compensation for the property owner.

City officials say the improvements will help ensure Prescott Regional Airport continues to support transportation, emergency response, and economic activity for years to come.
