An Uber driver prevented an elderly woman in the Village of Oak Creek from falling victim to a scammer.
According to the Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office, the woman received a call from someone who claimed to be from her bank and told her that her debit card and personal information had been hacked. He then told the woman to hand her debit cards over to a courier.
A little while later, an Uber driver named Michael arrived at the location to pick up a passenger named “Sam.” The Sheriff’s Office posted Michael’s story on its Facebook page . . .
It turned out Michael, the Uber driver, is a retired police officer and recognized the signs of a scam.
