Prescott will once again pause this month to honor the 19 members of the granite mountain interagency hotshot crew who lost their lives while battling the Yarnell Hill fire in 2013.
City officials, the Prescott fire department, and the granite mountain interagency hotshot crew learning and tribute center are inviting the community to take part in events marking the 13th anniversary of the tragedy.
A commemorative ceremony is scheduled for noon on Monday, June 29th, at the granite mountain interagency hotshot crew learning and tribute center. The program will feature remarks from center board chair john marsh, Prescott fire chief Holger Durre, and other community leaders. The event will also mark the eighth anniversary of the learning and tribute center.
Then, at 4:42 p.m. on June 30th, Yavapai County will ring the courthouse bells 19 times in honor of each fallen hotshot. The observance will serve as a quiet moment of reflection for the community.
Mayor Cathy Rusing says Prescott will never forget the brave 19 and will continue to honor their memory for generations to come.
A permanent memorial dedicated to the fallen firefighters stands on the east side of the Yavapai county courthouse plaza.
