Units from the Central Arizona Fire and Medical Authority were called to a home on North Noel Court in Prescott Valley Thursday for a battery fire. Upon arrival, firefighters learned an electric skateboard had been plugged into a wall socket when it suddenly burst into flames. The homeowner tried to smother the flames with a blanket, which also caught fire. A garden hose was then used to extinguish the fire. Three other occupants of the home and their pets all got out safely. No injuries were reported.
CAFMA officials urge everyone to always follow the manufacturer’s instructions when it comes to charging a battery. Also, do not charge batteries when you are not home, and keep them away from flammable materials.
