The Chino Valley boys soccer team began the week by taking a trip to the Grand Canyon. Not for sightseeing, but to play Grand Canyon High School. It turned out to be a scoring frenzy for the Cougars as they laid waste to the Phantoms 10-2 Monday.
Corbin McGuffey had a hat trick for Chino. Angel Sanchez notched two goals, and so did freshman Alex Gomez. Rylan Eckerman, Miguel Sanchez, and Jackson Hawks each posted a goal. The Cougars are now 10-0 in their power point games and sit at number one in the power point rankings. They conclude the regular season Thursday when they host Williams.
The Chino Valley girls, meanwhile, had a critical game against Payson as they try to move up in the power point rankings to claim a state playoff spot. Unfortunately for the Lady Cougars, they got blanked by the Lady Longhorns 8-0 Monday. Chino’s regular season finale is Thursday at home versus Blue Ridge.
