EPA Collects Thousands of Soil Samples in Dewey-Humboldt

The EPA has plenty of soil samples from Dewey-Humboldt to test for contaminants. The agency reports that by the end of 2024, it had collected 6,800 samples from 211 parcels as part of its effort to clean up the Iron King Mine/Humboldt Smelter Superfund Site.

More soil samples will be collected around town this month. Residents with properties the EPA has identified for cleanup will be contacted with instructions on how to proceed.
