PHS Boys Soccer Drops State Opener to Mica Mt.

The opening round of the 4A conference state tournament for boys soccer looked like it was going to be a thrilling one. Number ten seeded Prescott was down in Tucson Wednesday to face number seven Mica Mountain. Both sides went back-and-forth trying to gain the upper hand, to the point it was 2-2 with 20 minutes left in regulation. Suddenly, the Thunderbolts exploded offensively and rattled off three unanswered goals in the span of ten minutes. That resulted in a 5-2 loss for Prescott.

Casey DeVito and Rico Gutierrez were the goal scorers for the Badgers. The loss brings Prescott’s season to a close.

Mica Mountain, meanwhile, hosts Thunderbird in the Elite Eight of state Saturday. Number 15 seeded T-Bird upset number two ALA Gilbert North 8-7 last night.

One other Grand Canyon Region team was involved in the state tournament. Number 13 Coconino lost to number four Ironwood Ridge 2-0.
