Jade Bayless got to play the hero of the day in the opening day of the NAIA Softball World Series. She jacked a two-run home run, which counted for Embry-Riddle’s only runs of the game. Central Baptist closed the gap in the seventh inning, but Vanessa Brink held the line and gave the Lady Eagles the 2–1 victory Monday. Brink fanned nine en route to the win, her 20th of the season. Leah Salas and Katie Jamieson each had two hits.
In the second game of the day, Our Lady of the Lake stymied Riddle’s offense. The Lady Eagles attempted a comeback in the seventh inning, but fell 3–1. Kayli Clark drove in the lone Riddle run with an RBI single.
Despite the loss, the Lady Eagles are in action today at the San Antonio Regional. They face the winner of the Central Baptist/Middle Georgia State game.
