Prescott Area State Rep Nguyen Expands Investigation into Prison Violence

Prescott area State Representative Quang Nguyen is turning up the heat on the Arizona Department of Corrections. As chairman of the House Judiciary Committee, Nguyen sent a letter Monday to prison director Ryan Thornell, demanding records tied to a series of deadly incidents—including a triple homicide at Tucson Prison on April 4th.

Nguyen wants documents on all inmate homicides since January, policies on contraband, and communications with advocacy groups like the ACLU. He says these requests follow a pattern of security failures and possible outside influence on prison policy.

Nguyen says, We’re no longer looking at a single failure. We are looking at a system in decline.”

The department has until June 2nd to respond.
