Treatment of Watson Lake to Begin

Starting Monday, the City of Prescott will treat Watson Lake to improve water quality and reduce algae growth. Aquatic Consulting and Testing, the city’s consultant, will apply a phosphorus-binding product to the lake, which removes excess nutrients from the water and sediment.

The treatment is considered safe for drinking water, aquatic life, and recreational users. It follows guidance from the State Department of Environmental Quality and fits with the city’s lake management plan.

Officials say the goal is cleaner water, fewer algae blooms, and a healthier environment for fish and wildlife. A small pontoon will apply the product, and lake users are asked to avoid the boat’s path and wake.

Watson Lake will remain open for fishing and recreation during the two-day treatment.
