The Central Arizona Fire and Medical Authority responded to a lightning-caused wildfire Monday afternoon near East State Route 69 in Prescott Valley.
The fire, burning in light grass on a south-facing slope, was fueled by wind and reached flame heights of up to two feet. Engine crews from Stations 540 and 53 acted quickly, containing the blaze to just one-tenth of an acre.
A monsoon storm moved through shortly after, aiding in suppression and helping protect nearby structures. The State Department of Forestry and Fire Management assisted with mop-up and took over the incident for training.
CAFMA reminds residents to stay vigilant during monsoon season, as lightning and dry fuels can quickly ignite wildfires.
