The Woods Fire near the Village of Oak Creek is holding at 55 acres. The Yavapai County Sheriff’s Office reports the fire has been fully boxed in by retardant dropped from aircraft Wednesday evening.
Moisture from monsoon storms helped slow the fire’s advance, but two hotshot crews remain on scene. Residents in several parts of the Village of Oak Creek remain on set status for possible evacuations.
The fire was first reported just before 12:30 p.m. Wednesday and remains under investigation. While active flames have subsided, light smoke will continue to be visible in the area. That could create hazy conditions for communities below the fire as smoke drains into the Verde Valley.
