Thinning Operation Underway in Prescott Nat’l Forest

Mechanical thinning operations are underway this week in the Bradshaw Ranger District of the Prescott National Forest. Contractors are working on the Lynx East Stewardship Project, targeting 382 acres to remove hazardous fuels. The project is located on national forest lands near the communities of Walker and Potato Patch.

Officials are advising hikers to avoid Dandrea Trail number 285, which lies within the project area. The public should use extreme caution along Walker Road, Big Bug Mesa Road, and Poacher’s Row, and avoid areas where machinery is active. Debris can travel up to 300 feet, and operators may not see approaching individuals.

Thinning work is expected to continue through the end of February. This is part of a larger effort to reduce wildfire risk and strengthen forest health in the region.
