Hand-thinning operations are underway this week in the Bradshaw Ranger District of Prescott National Forest.
Contractors are using chainsaws to remove hazardous fuels as part of three projects: the Ruth Fire Stewardship Project, the Lynx East Timber Stand Improvement, and the Poland Junction TSI.
Work is taking place near Ponderosa Park, Walker, and Breezy Pines. Trails affected include Butter Beans, Cool Beans, Dandrea Trail Number 285, and Yankee Doodle Trail Number 284.
No road or area closures are planned, but officials urge hikers to use caution and avoid active work zones. Operations may continue through February of next year.
The goal of the project is to reduce the risk of a wildfire and improve forest health near local communities and infrastructure.
