This time, there would be no sweep. This time, the Prescott badminton team would be in a dogfight with a trip to the state championship match on the line.
The Lady Badgers faced Ironwood in the Final Four of state Friday. While the Lady Eagles took the number one and number two singles contests, the middle of the pack belonged to Prescott. Abbie Daniels — the state singles runner-up — dropped her opening set at number three singles 25-23, but won the next two 21-19 and 21-18. Lucy Townsend won at number four singles 23-21 and 21-10, and at number five singles, Allison Block won 21-14 and 21-13. Block and Liv Norman also won at number three doubles in a third-set tiebreaker.
Ironwood, however, took the other matches to hand Prescott the 5-4 loss. The Lady Badgers end the season at 16-1 overall. On Saturday, Ironwood faced Sunrise Mountain for the state title, with the Lady Mustangs winning 5-4.
