A Camp Verde man is behind bars after a domestic violence investigation turned into a high-speed pursuit on Interstate 17.
On Tuesday, deputies responded to an apartment complex where Jose Ramirez allegedly violated an order of protection and assaulted a woman. When located in a nearby vehicle, he fled from deputies on foot.
The next day, officers spotted Ramirez driving again. Unmarked vehicles followed him north on I-17 and called in the Department of Public Safety. At a Munds Park gas station, Ramirez recognized law enforcement and took off, hitting speeds over 120 miles per hour.
He eventually exited the interstate, drove through a barbed-wire fence, and got stuck. A foot chase ended in his arrest.
Ramirez faces multiple charges, including stalking, burglary, and weapons misconduct.
Camp Verde officials thanked DPS and reminded victims that help is always available.
