Day two at the Yvonne Johnson Memorial Shootout in Camp Verde was a rough one for our local teams, though there was one bright spot on the day.
The Chino Valley boys basketball team began Tuesday’s slate of games with a 48–43 triumph over Red Mesa. In their last game of the day, however, the Cougars fell to Baboquivari 58–35.
Mayer was unable to notch a win on Tuesday. The boys lost their first game of the day to Sedona Red Rock 73–30, then were topped by Ash Fork 58–31. The girls also suffered two losses on the day, 48–30 to Camp Verde and 32–20 to Sedona Red Rock.
Stats were not available for any of these games prior to airtime.
More of our local basketball teams will take part in tournaments this week. The Prescott boys are in the Valley for the Nike Tournament of Champions, which begins tomorrow and runs through Saturday. The Prescott girls host the Lady Badger Winter Classic Friday and Saturday, with Bradshaw Mountain also taking part.
