Kortney Bennett has been having quite the freshman season for the Bradshaw Mountain girls basketball team. She is averaging 6.3 points per game and has grabbed 137 rebounds. But she probably never thought as a freshman she would come up with the biggest play of the season for the Lady Bears. In last night’s 4A Conference state play-in game, Bennett put back a rebound with under three seconds left in regulation to give number 20 seed Bradshaw Mountain the 43-42 win over number 13 Sahuaro.
Bennett ended the night with eight points, and Ally Downing netted 12 points.
The Lady Bears will meet Prescott in the opening round of the 4A Conference tournament next Thursday.
Meanwhile, up in Flagstaff Thursday, the Prescott boys soccer team braved the bitter cold weather to get the 1-0 triumph over Coconino in the opening round of the 4A Conference state tournament. Angel Sanchez had the deciding goal. The Badgers are at ALA Gilbert North Saturday at 2 p.m. for the Elite Eight of State.
